The anonymous account ‘Hassan Kurusee’, famous for making defamatory allegations, especially against government officials, has been suspended by the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.
The account was suspended on Wednesday morning.
The suspension comes after the Criminal Court issued an order last month, to find out the identity of the person behind the anonymous account.
The police had said they would make a formal request with X.
The account had been accusing top government officials, including the president, of corruption and embezzlement.
‘Hassan Kurusee’ had previously been thought to be former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed, especially after he acknowledged ‘Alex Ahmed’ as his unofficial account.
But in April, Nasheed said that the anonymous account was causing him harm, and lodged a police complaint to find out the person behind the account.
The court order in August was issued in response to a petition filed by the police in the investigation into the case.
The account has over 12,000 followers.
