Qasim: Past shows Nasheed will do everything he says he won’t; will support MDP in a runoff

Jumhoory Party (JP)’s presidential candidate, claiming former president, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, was putting a façade by forming a separate political party, has presumed he will back the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) if the election goes to a second round.

Speaking at a campaign event in GA. Villingili on Tuesday afternoon – Qasim, underscoring the past shows Nasheed doing everything he claims he will not, presuming the former MDP leader will back the party if the election goes to a second round.

“What side will President Nasheed’s Democrats shift to? Hundred percent sure they will back MDP. He is putting up a façade. Nasheed is putting up a big façade,” he said.

Qasim, noting he knows Nasheed very well, claimed he has not left his ‘Aneh Dhivehi Raajje’ ideology, which Qasim said can only be achieved through MDP.

He also accused Nasheed of attempting to secure additional votes for MDP, detailing votes had been secured from non-supporters of MDP, only to take them along to form a coalition MDP later on.

He made further accusations against Nasheed, including obstructing the airport development project at Villingili, which Qasim said resulted in a huge loss.

Underscoring additional alleged violations of the law by Nasheed, Qasim said his former party, MDP, was now walking on the same path.

“The parliament has been brought to a deadlock and halted as well,” he added.
