Muizzu hopes for win in President Solih’s home island

The opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says he has “high hopes” for a majority from Lh. Hinnavaru, the home island of his main rival, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In his visit to Hinnavaru on Thursday, Muizzu thanked the people who showed up to welcome him “despite the hard and fearful circumstances.”

“The strong example who showed today, is the example of passion and courage that we, the Maldivian people must show to stand up against the loss of our nationalism, our independence, and our individuality, given the current state of affairs of this country,” he said.

Muizzu said that the election on September 9 isn’t just one find someone to fulfill the island’s needs, but to protects things of national significance.

“Nothing has been fulfilled in this island at the end of these five years,” he said.

Muizzu said that he will establish infrastructure such as water and sanitation in the reclaimed land.

But first, we must unite to solve issues of national interest, he said.

“Otherwise, even though we remain Maldivians, the current state of affairs is such that even our language could be snatched from us at any moment,” he said.

“If we leave our independence in the hands of someone else, then it’s game over.”

Muizzu said he plans to win the election in one round, adding that he would be glad to see a majority from Hinnavaru.

He said he has high hopes for a win in Hinnavaru.

“It is a great challenge. But I am certain you will win,” he said.

Both Muizzu and President Solih are currently touring Lh. Atoll. They visited Kurendhoo near simultaneously earlier Thursday.
