Huvadhoo linked via RTL; nationwide expansion to be complete in 2024, creating over 1,000 jobs

The Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service will be expanded nationwide by the end of next year, creating over 1,000 jobs, according to Adam, Azim, the CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

Azim made the announcement during a ceremony held in GDh. Thinadhoo on Wednesday evening, to celebrate the launch of RTL ferry service in Huvadhoo Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, Azim said that 82 high-speed ferries will be in operation once the service is expanded nationwide.

He also said that it will create over 1,000 jobs, which he said would be honorable jobs that offer good salaries.

“Once your second term begin and 2024 ends, the entire Maldives will be linked via the RTL high-speed ferry system, ending the bitterness of the treacherous seas. By the Grace of Almighty Allah, it will be you who graces that ceremony,” said Azim, referring to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is up for re-election.

Azim said that it was President Solih who is the happiest at the launch of the service in Huvadhoo.

He said that linking Maldives via the RTL ferry service was the president’s dream.

“Today, we are realizing another one of your dreams. This is your dream. This is your initiative. And this is your vision. I have no doubt that it is therefore you, who is the happiest about this,” he said.

Azim described the president as a leader who delivers his pledges.

The RTL is also linked to Addu and Fuvahmulah. According to Azim, the transport system is now accessible to some 100,000 people in southern Maldives.
