This year’s presidential debate, organized by the Public Service Media (PSM) in collaboration with the Maldives National University (MNU), has been cancelled.
PSM announced Tuesday that it made the decision to cancel the debate because some of the candidates are in campaign tours across the Maldives, and are therefore unable to attend the debate.
The state broadcaster added that postponing the debate could pose difficulties for the candidates to campaign.
PSM plans on collaborating with SanguTV in its presidential debate.
The decision to cancel the PSM debate comes after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih – who is running for re-election – confirmed his attendance earlier this week, and declined to attend SanguTV’s debate.
According to SanguTV, all other presidential candidates have confirmed their attendance in the channel’s debate.
