Muizzu: Will develop an airport at Vihafaru near Velidhoo

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to develop an airport at Vihafaru, near Velidhoo in Noonu Atoll.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Velidhoo on Thursday night – Muizzu pointed out that tourism had flourished significantly in both Velidhoo and Noonu Atoll. A significant number of resorts were located in Noonu Atoll, while many islands practiced local tourism, he said. Therewith, he stressed the importance of developing an airport in the region, geographical-wise.

In this trajectory, he pledged to develop an airport at Vihafaru nearby Velidhoo, that is presently leased for tourism purposes. Muizzu, noting the lease posed obstructions in the pursuit of this project, promised to undertake efforts to eliminate these obstructions.

The opposition presidential candidate also pledged to develop an area in Velidhoo that will be allocated for economic activities.

He noted that his policies also included incepting a law specific for travel agencies through the parliament which would pave the way for foreign travel agencies to register in the Maldives and boost businesses of local travel agencies.
