Ex-President of the Anti Corruption Commission(ACC), Hassan Luthufee has had his passport seized when he returned after a long stay abroad.

A media official of Maldives Police Service told Sun that a Court order was granted for a travel ban on Luthufee in connection to an ongoing investigation, but no other details about the case were released.

The police had started an investigation in 2019 on Luthufee in connection with the MMPRC scam. However, he stayed in Malaysia without giving any cooperation to the investigation.

He returned to the Maldives this week after staying abroad. He was even present to welcome the opposition candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu to Addu.

Luthufee was named as a witness in the two charges raised against Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom regarding the lease transaction of V. Aarah. He refused to testify saying that there was no chance of freely testifying.

Luthufee was appointed to ACC in 2009 during MDP’s first government.
