Muizzu pledges to give a month’s holiday mid-year in addition to long holidays

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu speaks at a campaign rally in F. Nilandhoo.

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu who pledged to shift back the long holidays to the end of the year last night, has pledged to give a month’s holiday mid-year in addition to the long holidays tonight.

Speaking at a campaign rally at F. Nilandhoo on Thursday night, Muizzu said his pledge to shift long holidays back to the end of the year was misunderstood by some of the workers in the tourism industry.

“What I want to assure is I will not let any families of the tourism industry face any losses once the long holiday is changed to December,” he added.

He said although he intends to shift the school holidays back to the end of the year, a four-week holiday will be given mid-year.

“There will be no concern for those workers,” he added.

Muizzu said he made the decision after discussions with experts from the education sector. He added that all annual learning hours will be concerned despite the change.

Tourism industry workers were enraged with Muizzu’s pledge once announced last year. This is as the end of the year is the busiest time for workers in the industry.
