Qasim picks Ameen as his running mate

Jumhoory Party (JP)’s leader Qasim Ibrahim has picked the party’s deputy leader Dr. Ameen Ibrahim as his running mate for the upcoming presidential election.

The party is set to make the announcement at a press conference set to begin at 02:30 pm Sunday.

Ameen, who attained his PhD last month, has been a close aide to Qasim for years.

He served as transport minister on a JP slot during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.

JP has reportedly engaged in talks with multiple potential candidates for a running mate, but decided to opt for one within the party after it failed to come to an agreement with many of the candidates.

Other top government posts Ameen has served includes; deputy gender minister, and chairman of the education fund.

He also served as deputy executive director at MNBC, director at MTCC, and as a management consultant for various companies.
