Comedian Shahid dies at age 72

Ahmed Shahid Haleem, who made TV viewers laugh with his quick wit and humor in the 1980s show ‘Bahabaru’, has passed away at the age of 72.

Shahid died at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ on Sunday, a month after he was admitted to the hospital after he grew seriously ill.

According to a family member, he had been treated for a week on a ventilator.

Shahid had risen to fame with the Television Maldives (TVM) comedy series ‘Bahabaru’.

He has also performed in the play ‘Thin Undhagoo’ held at the Lonuziyaaraihkolhu during former president Ibrahim Nasir’s administration to celebrate Independence Day.

Shahid received the National Award of Recognition in the field of stage acting in 1986.

In addition to acting, Shahid was also a poet.

Many of his poems were published on magazines such as the ‘Aabaaru’ and  ‘Faihthoora’.
