President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Sunday, underscoring Noomara, one of the islands from Shaviyani Atoll with the lowest population was left behind by all previous administrations, said any development brought to the island had been during the administrations of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Speaking to residents in his visit to Noomara as part of his ongoing tour to four islands in Shaviyani Atoll to officially launch his presidential campaign – President Solih described Noomara as the island outside of Male’ that has been left most ‘uncared and isolated’.
On this note, he exampled that difficulties in entering and exiting the island were first addressed by MDP’s first administration, while the difficulties that still remain in this trajectory are being addressed by the current administration.
He said only MDP administrations have prioritized the island – which he cited as the reason behind Noomara residents’ majority vote for MDP.
“As I said before, this island has been one that has been isolated without care since early times. Can say we had to begin everything from zero,” he said.
President Solih then briefed the island’s residents on pledges he would fulfill if elected for a second term. They are;
Commencement of shore protection at eroding area after completion of harbor
Making ‘Neyo’, a nearby island accessible for Noomara residents for their use
President Solih also said he would work on expediting projects that have been commenced at the islands that have been stalled in the upcoming month.
These projects include the development of a powerhouse on the island and the secretariat of Noomara Council.
The president also remarked today was a happy day for him as it is his first meeting with Noomara residents in his capacity as the president.
