Applicants for the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme, who were deemed eligible but failed to make the shortlist, have been granted the chance to submit joint applications with the recipients of land plots under the scheme.

Housing Ministry said in a statement that applicants listed as eligible applicants who can submit joint applications have the opportunity to submit joint applications with people listed as recipients of land under the scheme.

State Minister for Housing Akram Kamaluddin noted that eligible applicants had previously been given the chance to submit joint applications with other eligible applicants, and not recipients.

“The change now is that if a family member has received land, you can join with them. This opportunity is open for all applicants who are eligible but failed to receive land,” he said.

The opportunity is open until July 15 for eligible applicants to submit requests to the leading applicant of winning applications.

The government had released the preliminary list recipients of thousands of land plots under the 'Binveriya' Housing Scheme on June 26.

The scheme is focused on residents of the populous Maldivian capital. Land will be issued to the recipients from the reclaimed areas of Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru Lagoon.

The scheme received 15,164 applications from 23,088 individuals.

The list released in June included names of 10,314 applicants, including people who applied jointly and separately.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the government would begin issuing land plots to recipients of the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme in August, after reviewing the preliminary list of beneficiaries and addressing any complaints or inquiries.

He also said the government intends to continue issuing land plots until all eligible applicants have received land.
