Police rescue 8 from sinking dhoni

Maldives Police Services rescued eight people from a sinking boat, that was headed to Adh. Mahibadhoo.

In a message sent to media, Police said that the boat named ‘Ricardo’ was a dhoni travelling with goods to Madhibahoo from Male’.

The authority further revealed that once they received reports of the vessel sinking on Wednesday night, the Police speedboat of Adh Atoll went to the scene, and rescued eight people who were on the dhoni.

Police are now working on transporting them to Madhibadhoo.

As Maldives is experiencing a phase of rough weather, relevant authorities have urged all those travelling via sea to be extra cautious.

In addition to this Maldives Meteorological Services (Met Office) have issued a warning of possible wave surges in northern and central Maldivian atolls on Wednesday for the next 24 hours.
