Met Office warns of possible wave surges in north and central atolls

Maldives Meteorological Services (Met Office), on Wednesday, has warned of possible wave surges in northern and central Maldivian atolls.

Met Office’s Metrologist Abdulla Hafeez said extreme weather is forecasted for northern and central Maldivian in the atolls for the upcoming 24 hours. He added that wave surges and flooding are likely during showers.

Heavy rain and winds of 25 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour with gusts of 50 miles per hour have been forecasted for northern atolls as Met Office has issued a yellow alert from Haa Alifu Atoll to Baa Atoll.

The yellow alert is in place till 3:00pm this afternoon.

Met Office, warning rough seas and weather picks up across the Maldives, has warned seafarers to exercise caution and safety.
