130 teachers headed to India for training

130 teachers employed at schools across Maldives are scheduled to depart to neighboring India for additional training under the Alfa Pilot Program.

The program is organized by the Education Ministry in partnership with the National Institute of Education and India’s Global Education and Training Institute.

 The nine-day training program begins on Sunday, at the Alfa Training School in Lucknow, the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh.

This year’s program will focus on literacy and numeracy.

State Minister for Education Dr. Abdulla Rasheed Ahmed said the teachers participating in the program will gain practical experience on the teaching classes based on the “accelerated learning for all” method.

Trainers from the Alfa Training School had previously conducted training programs for Maldivian school teachers online, and by visiting Maldives.

 According to the Education Ministry, the Alfa Literacy and Numeracy Pedagogy Pilot Program is currently run in 10 schools in Maldives.

The program is being run by Maldivian authorities in collaboration with India’s Global Education and Training Institute, and UNICEF Maldives.

Maldives and the Global Education Training Institute has also been collaborating to conduct overseas training programs for school principals.
