Classes to begin in new school buildings in Aug

Education Ministry states that classes will begin in newly construction Dharumavantha School, and the new building of the Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), when schools reopen for the academic new year in August.

In an interview to Public Service Media (PSM), Deputy Education Minister Mohamed Ihsaan said in addition to the new Dharumavantha School and the new CHSE building, classes will also begin Salahuddin School – a new school built in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

According to Ihusan, classes in Dharumavantha School will be held in a single session.

Education Ministry is currently procuring chairs, tables and other equipment needed for the school.

Izzuddin School and Huravee School had been the first schools in the greater Male’ region to switch to single-session schools. However, the influx of students from Hulhumale’ Phase II forced the Huravee School to switch back to two sessions.

The new Dharumavantha School building was constructed in the land adjacent to the Male’ Prison. Maldives Correctional Service is working on relocating the prison before the school opens.

The project to build Dharumavantha School was contracted to SJ Construction in 2020.

The new school will have 41 classrooms, able to accommodate up to 25 students each. The school will also have two libraries for primary school and secondary school students.

Meanwhile, the MVR 118 million six-story Salahuddin School in Hulhumale’ Phase II has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,200 students.

And, the eight-story new CHSE building was constructed at the cost of over MVR 21 million.
