The Maldivian government has issued a statement, condemning the deadly raid on a refugee camp in Jenin, a city in Palestine’s West Bank.

Israeli forces raided the Jenin refugee camp on early Monday morning, killing five Palestinians and wounding at least 91.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday night that the Maldivian government “strongly condemns” the violent attacks.

“The government and people of Maldives express heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the Israeli aggression and wish a swift recovery for the injured,” reads the statement.

Foreign Ministry said the Maldives remains deeply concerned by the disproportionate and excessive use of force by Israel on unarmed civilians, including women and children in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Maldives reiterated its position that finding long-lasting peace in the Middle East, rests with reaching a two-State solution, with the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.

“The government and people of Maldives stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, in their legitimate struggle for self-determination,” said the Foreign Ministry.
