Govt. to introduce additional allowances for persons with disabilities

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Tuesday, has decided to introduce additional allowances for persons with disabilities in addition to hiking the disability allowance as previously planned.

President Solih made the decision at Tuesday’s cabinet meeting following deliberations on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.

The President’s Office states that the government will soon disclose further details of the new disability allowances to the media and the public. 

At present, persons with disabilities get a monthly allowance of MVR 2,000. The revision to the allowance framework has been revised for the first time since it was introduced 12 years ago.
