A total of 500 new members from across Maldives sign up for Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
According to the Vice President of MDA Ali Mauroof said that the forms of the newly signed members were handed over on Monday night, at the party’s political centre in Male’ City.
Most of the new members of the party are from Male’, N.Atoll and Dh.Atoll, along with some other atolls, revealed Mauroof.
He went on to note that increasing members was part of the work to strengthen the party for future elections.
“So, the current thinking is to increase the political strength of the party in different parts of the country, as the presidential and Parliamentary elections are around the corner. And working in the atolls with larger populations in the country to increase membership.
Moreover, Mauroof noted that political activities were being carried out in both the party hubs in Male’ and Fuvamulah. The party is also carrying out activities in other atolls such as Addu City, and Kulhudhuffushi City.
He noted that looking at number of members in the registered political parties of the country, MDA ranks at fourth.
“We hope to increase members everyday, and become an influential political party in the country.”
MDA is among the two parties that accepted the invitation by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to work together for the Presidential Election.
Although the party had initially decided to contest individually, later on MDA’s council unanimously decided the best option was to work in a coalition.
