Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood has been re-appointed as the President of the Judges Association of Maldives.

Suood had initially been appointed President of the Judges Association of Maldives last year, after Judge Abdul Rauf, who had been filling the position, resigned from the High Court.

The association had opened applications for membership to its executive committee last Thursday.

Candidates had applied for the 11 positions at the executive committee unopposed. They were therefore appointed without a vote.

The new executive committee:

  • Hassan Shiyam, Magistrate at Sh. Milandhoo Court and Chief Magistrate of Sh. Atoll Judicial District, secretary
  • Judge Ahmed Rasheed, Civil Court, treasurer
  • Azeem Hassan, Magistrate at GA. Vilingili Magistrate Court, assistant treasurer

  • Judge Maeesha Yoosuf Sameer, Family Court
  • Mohamed Shareef, Chief Magistrate at HA. Hoarafushi Court

The Judges Association of Maldives was formed in 2019 under Article 10 of the Judges Act, with the aim of maintaining the independence and autonomy of judges, and protecting their rights and privileges.
