EC seeks to review order halting enforcement of MRM’s dissolution

Elections Commission (EC) has decided to seek a review of the interim order by Civil Court instructing to halt the enforcement of the commission’s decision to dissolve Maldives Reform Movement (MRM).

EC’s Deputy President Ismail Habeeb told Sun that their decision to request a review of the interim order from Civil Court stems from some issues noted in the order.

In this regard, Habeeb underscored that the interim order had been issued in EC’s absentia.

Habeeb also said that EC had acted in accordance with the stipulated regulation in dissolving MRM, as the party had been granted time to secure 3,000 members.

EC dissolved MRM on Wednesday.

MRM, enraged, described EC’s decision “illegal and corrupt”.

Civil Court issued the interim order to halt the enforcement of MRM’s dissolution on Sunday, at the party's request.

Subsequent to the interim order, MRM has instructed all its branches, committees and general members to continue conducting party activities as usual.
