Health Ministry began sending blood transfusion equipment to all health centers with laboratories on Wednesday, in an effort to improve the quality of healthcare services in islands outside the capital.

Health centers with labs in the K. Atoll received the equipment Wednesday.

According to the Health Ministry, the equipment will be sent to the rest of the health centers within the next two weeks.

Total 112 health centers will receive blood transfusion equipment under the project.

The ceremony held Wednesday to hand over the equipment to health centers in K. Atoll was attended by Health Minister Ahmed Naseem.

Naseem said the project will speed up and improve access to blood transfusion services.

“This will ensure safe transfusion of blood and increase convenience,” he said. “This brings an end to transfusions being available only from IGMH.”

The equipment health centers received include blood collection monitor, plasma extractor, blood bank tube stripper, blood bank tube sealer, and blood bank vein scale.

The MVR 19 million project is being carried out under the Islamic Development Bank (IDB)-funded Emergency Response to Covid-19 Pandemic Project.
