A blood donation camp began at the Sun Siyam Olhuveli on Monday, as part of a blood drive launched by the Sun Siyam Resorts to celebrate its 33rd anniversary.
Sun Siyam Group’s assistant general manager Hassan Adil told Sun that some 175 of the resort’s workers are registered to donate blood.
They expect to cover some 150 workers Monday.
Sun Siyam Resorts launched its first blood drive back in 2015. Adil said the camp has expanded since then.
“Blood donation is a national endeavor. Donating blood to fellow citizens is something we must do. If we take the initiative and donate blood as a group, then we can donate a lot of blood fast,” he said.
Sun Siyam Group also donated gifts for thalassemia patients to the Maldives Blood Service on Monday to mark the World Thalassemia Day.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Maldives Blood Service’s deputy director Faisal Ibrahim thanked Sun Siyam Resorts for organizing the blood drive, which will be run in all its resorts.
“I recognize the support of everyone at Sun Siyam and thank them,” he said.
Faisal called for more support from the private sector.
Sun Siyam Resorts’ blood drive will continue until June 9.
