6,017 students sit for this year’s SSC exams

The Secondary School Certificate (SSE) exams began in Maldives on Tuesday, with over 6,000 students.

The exams began in 244 exam centers across Maldives at 09:00 am Tuesday. The first exam was Islam. All centers started the exam on time.

6,017 students are sitting in this year’s exam – 444 students more than last year.

After the SSC exams, students will sit for the Cambridge O-level exams, which will begin on May 2. 6,698 students will sit for the O-level exams – which is 759 students more than last year.

The O-level exams will end on June 8.

The Education Ministry made two major changes to this year’s exams. Instead of Islam II, students first sat for the Islam I paper.

And unlike previous years, students aren’t allowed to wear wrist watches inside exam halls.

Even regular wristwatches must be kept on the table in view of invigilators.

The change was made at the instructions of Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).

Department of Public Examinations (DPE)’s president Mohamed Ihusan advised all students to follow exam rules.
