MVR 9M in zakat al-Fitr distributed among poor

Over MVR 9 million collected as zakat al-Fitr during Ramadan has been deposited to the accounts of people registered as poor, according to the Islamic Ministry.

175,485 people paid zakat by the end of April 20 – the last day of Ramadan. The total zakat collection amounted to MVR 9,003,324.05.

There are 8,446 people registered as poor in Maldives. The 1,736 people based in Male’ received MVR 3,450 per person.

The ministry also received 12,989.3 kilos in grains as zakat. That too has been distributed among the poor.
