Discussions took place on Sunday regarding resuming direct flights between Maldives and Pakistan.
The discussions took place during a courtesy call by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani to Maldivian Vice President Faisal Naseem at the President’s Office on late Sunday morning.
During the meeting, VP Faisal and High Commissioner Gilani spoke on areas of mutual interest, including ways to strengthen further the cordial relations between the two countries which span several decades based on mutual values and interests.
They also discussed strengthening air connectivity, enhancing ties in tourism, culture, sports, training, and education, and also addressed stalled discussions on Memoranda of Understanding in various sectors.
VP Faisal also inquired from the High Commissioner regarding the current situation in Pakistan following the devastating floods last year.
Both the Vice President and the High Commissioner concluded the meeting by affirming eagerness for continued relations and cooperation in the years to come.
Maldives and Pakistan established diplomatic relations on July 26, 1966.
