Naeema’s death: Police search uninhabited home

Police have commenced a search of an uninhabited home N. Manadhoo in connection to the death of the middle-aged woman who was discovered dead in her residence on the island.

Naeema Moosa, 62, Annaarumaage, N. Manadhoo, was found dead in her bedroom at around 06:30 pm Friday evening.

Sun’s journalist presently in Manadhoo reported the police searched ‘Colombia’ an uninhabited house situated behind the island’s hospital. The area was closed off to the public as approximately 12 plain-clothed officers, including forensics, searched the premise.  

The home was searched in the presence of its owner.

The owner confirmed to Sun that the police did not seize any items during their search.

A street sweeper employed by the local council, Naeema had lived alone. She had not reported to work and had not been seen for two days, before her family reported her missing at 06:13 pm Friday, prompting a search operation.

The police who went to her home had entered through the backdoor, after finding the front door locked. The police had to break open her bedroom door, which was also locked, and found her lying dead on the floor with multiple stab wounds.

Naeema was buried after the police took forensic samples at 05:20pm on Saturday evening.

Police, in a statement on Saturday night, said the case has been ruled as a homicide and has requested anyone who may have information regarding the murder to come forward. 

Investigators from the Serious and Organized Crime Department, a team of forensic investigators, and a forensic pathologist are operating in Manadhoo to investigate the case.
