Work begins on reclaiming 20 hectors of land in Thilafushi

Work has begun on reclaiming land in K. Thilafushi Phase II.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s spokesperson told Sun that work began on reclaiming ‘Area C’ located in Phase II of the island on Monday.

The land reclamation project was awarded to Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company. The company is contracted to reclaim 20 hectors of land in 120 days.

HDC states the completion of the development of Phase II will bring an end to industrial works in Male’ City.

The government plans on reclaiming Thilafushi and transforming the island into a major industrial hub to solve the issue of shortage of land and high lease rates in the island.

The government expects transferring industrial businesses in Male’ to Thilafushi will resolve the issue.

Land has already been reclaimed in Phase I under the project.

The land reclamation project is being carried out in three phases.
