The ruling on Yoosuf Naeem, a former parliamentary representative for Felidhoo constituency, after he was accused of bribery through Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) during the sale V. Aarah for tourism purposes by a lower court has been appealed to the High Court.
Criminal Court, on December 25, sentenced Yoosuf Naeem to three years and two months in prison after being found guilty of bribing former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom during the sale of V. Aarah for resort development.
This case has been appealed to the High court on his behalf. The court has not revealed any decision regarding accepting the case.
Yameen was sentenced to 11 years in prison for two charges, including this case, against him. And this ruling has also been appealed to the High court on his behalf, and the court has yet to accept that case as well.
The ruling by Criminal court regarding this case says that they deposited USD 1 million to HSBC and even more to Yameen’s BML account to facilitate the sale of V. Aarah and that on February 21 of 2017, a total of USD 1.29 million was deposited to his Islamic Bank account.
The ruling further states that on March 14, 2021, a total of USD 3.4 million was invested for a duration of 36 months in an investment account in the same bank.
