Over 4,000 tourist arrivals from China in 14 days of January

Maldives Immigration’s statistics show that 4,439 tourist arrivals from China were recorded in 14 days of January since the resumption of direct flights between China and Maldives.

Direct flights between China and Maldives resumed on January 18^th, after the country reopened its borders for the first time in three years following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Between January 18^th and January 31^st – Maldives saw the arrival of 4,439 Chinese tourists.

In total, Maldives saw 172,499 tourist arrivals in January – marking a 30.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The largest tourist market to the Maldives in January as per Immigration statistics is Russia – with 23,180 arrivals.

The second largest tourist market to the Maldives in January was India with 18,612 arrivals. Italy is the third largest tourist market to the Maldives with 16,931 arrivals – followed by the UK with 14,666 arrivals.

As per the Immigration stats – Maldives saw an average of 5,564 tourist arrivals daily in January.

As of last Wednesday, Maldives has recorded 220,574 tourist arrivals this year.

The government’s aim, as announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his presidential address at the inaugural sitting of the parliament, is to welcome 1.8 million tourists by the end of this year.
