National Pay Commission, on Tuesday, revealing salary increments for health sector workers have been decided, states they should expect a positive change.

Speaking at Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions – Pay Commission’s Secretary General Dr. Mohamed Faizal detailed that following salary increments for education sector workers, efforts were now underway to increase the salaries of health sector workers in addition to university and higher education sector workers.

Faizal noted that discussions had been held with many health sector stakeholders on increasing their salaries.

“The work has now been completed following one-year-long extensive meetings with health authorities, the ministry and organizations,” he said.

“There are fifty-five professions in the health sector. Workers are not employed for every profession. Some professions do not even have locals. Hopefully, a positive change can be expected for the salaries. The purpose of this is to increase the number of locals in the sector. To facilitate attractive work conditions for the locals,” he added.

President Solih announced salary increments for health sector workers during his presidential address last Monday.

As part of the government’s efforts to harmonize the salaries of civil servants – salary increments were first implemented for teachers in the education sector.
