Maldives has chaired the 37th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Program, Budget and Administration Committee.
The session, which took place from January 25-27 in Geneva, Switzerland, was chaired by the Health Ministry’s Director Aishath Rishmee.
It was the first meeting since Maldives was approved as a member state of the committee for the term 2022-2025.
Committee members made important decision on the budget for health programs planned for 2022-2023 and 2024-2025.
The members discussed the allocation WHO’s human resources, reviewed the organization’s budget and evaluation reports, identified priority areas, and discussed and made administrative and budgetary decisions.
Health Ministry described the opportunity for Maldives to chair a meeting where such important decisions were made as a great honor and proof of the confidence in the role of Maldives’ health sector.
It will also boost Maldives’ bilateral relations, said the ministry.
“WHO’s director-general Dr. Tedros acknowledged the work of Aishath Rishmee who chaired the meeting, praised her on how the meeting was conducted, and conveyed special thanks to Rishmee and Maldives,” said the ministry.
The Program, Budget and Administration Committee in in charge of making WHO’s key administrative and financial decisions. This year’s committee meeting was attended by 12 member states.
