President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Tuesday, remarked that the current administration has carried out more projects in two years than any other administration did in five years.
Speaking at a campaign event in HA. Ihavandhoo as part of his ongoing tour of several islands in Haa Alifu Atoll and Haa Dhaalu Atoll for Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) presidential primary – President Solih described the biggest obstruction faced during the current term as the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Underscoring that Maldives faced many difficulties as a result of the pandemic – President Solih said that his administration's management of the pandemic and subsequent recovery efforts was well received in the international arena.
Nevertheless, the President emphasized that if normalcy was observed throughout his entire term – projects and other matters could have been handled much better.
“Some people amongst us do not remember this today. Are talking as if we spent all four years in a normal state. Nevertheless, with the roughly two years we got, the current administration has carried out more projects across the Maldives than any other administration has in five years,” he said.
President Solih also detailed the development brought to Ihavandhoo in the course of his term.
On this note, he said that over MVR 129.7 million was spent on Ihavandhoo at the end of last year – while MVR 34 million was spent on Maarandhoo and MVR 44 million was spend on Molhadhoo.
Addressing Ihavandhoo residents – President Solih said that they should consider whether to move forward with development or not.
“In the upcoming presidential election, have to think whether cease the projects currently underway to go out on the roads again or to lay down a path for current projects and pending projects,” he said.
Stating that Ihavandhoo was an MDP ‘hub’ – President Solih said that the result of the primary seen in the constituency will also be the result seen in other constituencies.
He added that his trips were a testament to his win in the primary.
