Deputy leader of Progressives Party of Maldives (PPM) and representative of Naifaru constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam said that the opposition coalition has no interest towards the upcoming primary of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
His comments follow Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef claiming that PPM leaders have been sending people from PPM for former President Mohamed Nasheed’s campaign.
Speaking with Sun on Sunday night, Shiyam said that PPM has no interest for the primary, and added that no matter who wins, it would be the same thing.
“We don’t have any interest towards any of the candidates contesting in MDP primary. Doesn’t matter even if Solih wins or Nasheed wins. It will be the same thing. Those comments are because they know Solih will lose.”
He went on to say that it the upcoming days, MDP will do numerous things to disrupt the peace, and would try to lay the blame on opposition.
In an interview with Sun, MP Shareef - whose loyalty lies with President Solih had remarked that PPM’s leadership aren’t campaigning for Nasheed in secrecy.
“We can see that. We are not that blind. Even with glasses we can see. For instance, one of the biggest PPM activist from Addu is their council member Zahid Rameez. Look through his tweets,” said Shareef.
