All arrested from Monday night’s opposition protest released

All arrested on Monday night’s opposition protest calling to free the opposition leader, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom who was sentenced to 11 years in prison for money laundering and bribery, have been released from custody.

Protestors carried posters and flags as they marched across different areas in Male’ City. Police intervened at different points.

A total of 15 protestors were arrested from Monday night’s protest which included one woman.

A Police Spokesperson confirmed to Sun on Tuesday morning that all 15 protestors have been released.

Opposition coalition also protested in Male’ streets on Sunday night over Yameen’s sentencing. Sunday night’s protest saw the arrest of 16 people; 15 men and one woman.

All the arrestees of Sunday night’s protest were confirmed to have been released on Monday morning.

PPM’s Spokesperson Heena Waleed said that they will continue to protest the ‘haram’ sentencing on a serial basis.
