Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has urged travellers to go to the airport three hours early for flights as Velana International Airport will be crowded due to it being peak season and school holidays.

Speaking to Sun regarding this, the Corporate Communications Manager of MACL, Shamaan Shakir said that the airport will be very busy during these last few days of December.

He said that in order to avoid delays in flights and to run operations as smoothly as possible, the public's support will be needed as it is the time of year when most tourists visit the Maldives and lots of domestic travellers also happen to fly this time of year.

He further requested all travellers to go to the airport three hours early and to check in and for international travellers to have the Imuga form filled and ready when going to check-in.

He also said that tourist operations will also be run in the same way and that this will help prevent long lines and flight delays.

In anticipation of the surge in travellers, both international and domestic flights have been increased. Up till this month, more than 1.57 million tourists have visited the Maldives this year as per the Tourism Minister.
