President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to travel to GDh. Faresmaathoda to attend the official function for Fishermen’s Day, states the President’s Office.
In a press conference Thursday, PO spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed said President Solih will travel to Faresmaathoda on Sunday.
“There are a lot of celebrations planned in collaboration with the Fisheries Ministry, in addition to the official function,” he said.
Miuvaan said the President will join the celebrations.
Fishermen’s Day is celebrated on December 10.
President Solih’s upcoming visit to Faresmaathoda comes at the heels of recent protests from fishermen, who have complained of huge delays in payment for their catch and failure to pay them a fair price for their catch as promised when the administration came to power.
At Thursday’s press conference, Miuvaan said President Solih will return to Male’ from Faresmaathoda on Monday, and travel to Qatar for the ongoing FIFA World Cup the same day.
President Solih was invited to Qatar to spectate a match by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Miuvaan said Maldives and Qatar share strong relations, which will be further enhanced with the visit.
