Maldives will experience the indirect effects of the rare December cyclone which has formed in the Bay of Bengal, according to Maldives Meteorological Service.
According to the India Meteorology Department (IMD), Cyclone Mendous is over the south west Bay of Bengal, and is expected to pass through north Tamil Nadu Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coast Thursday.
Maldives Meteorological Service told Sun that while Maldives will not experience direct effects of the cyclone, it is likely to cause strong winds in some of the areas of the country.
The service expects winds of winds of 13-24 miles per hour, with gusts of 40 miles per hour.
Maldives had already been experiencing widespread rain and strong winds, even before the cyclone, as the monsoon changes from Hulhangu to Iruvai.
