Inclusive community events held at Guraidhoo, Ukulhas to mark Day of Persons with Disabilities

Local telecom giant, Dhiraagu, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to empower vulnerable communities has supported the Blind and Visually Impaired Society of the Maldives (BVISM) and Maldives Deaf Association (MDA) to host inclusive community events at K. Guraidhoo and AA. Ukulhas to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) marked annually on December 3.

The activities at Guraidhoo were conducted by MDA, with the engagement of the Home for People of Special Needs (HPSN) in the island which included sensitizing workshops for staff of HSPN as well as the Guraidhoo Island Council and Health Centre. Additionally, a special festival for the community was also held in the evening.

As per Dhiraagu, the aim of the sessions was to create awareness towards building inclusiveness and acceptance among the community.

Meanwhile, the activities at Ukulhas were conducted by BVISM and targeted toward the residents of the island and authorities. These activities consisted of sensitizing workshops for the community as well as an inclusive festival for the community.

Dhiraagu reiterated that the company remains committed to providing program-based assistance and initiatives in the area of supporting children, and empowering young people and vulnerable communities in society.
