Waste Management Corporation on Wednesday announced that a large amount of waste has moved out of the lagoon from its inner parts.
In the announcement made via Twitter, WAMCO noted that this was due to a change in the water current system of Thilafushi.
Furthermore, the corporation urged people to “please bear with us while we try to clean up the dispersed waste in the lagoon at the earliest, we can.”

Multiple photos were shared alongside the post, which showcased the extent of waste gathered.
A large area of the water was completely covered with garbage like various types of plastic, bottles, cans, wood and more.
The photos also showed WAMCO already at work to clean up the area.
This is not the first time such as incident has occurred. On previous occasions also, due to water current changes, waste has floated out in large quantities.
