New ambassadors from three countries present credentials to President

Three newly appointed foreign ambassadors to the Maldives presented their credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday.

Ambassador of Netherlands to Maldives Bonnie Horbach

Bonnie Horbach, the newly appointed Ambassador of Netherlands to the Maldives, presented her letter of credentials to President Solih during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

During a meeting held after the presentation of the letter of credentials – President Solih congratulated her on the appointment and discussed avenues to further solidify existing relations between the two countries.

In this regard, President Solih expressed hope that the Dutch government would consider easing visa requirements for Maldivians. He also spoke about expanding cooperation in the fisheries sector and expressed hope of reducing tariffs levied on Maldivian fisheries exports.

The President and the Ambassador also discussed ways to increase training and higher education opportunities for Maldivian students and other areas of mutual interest, including tourism, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and regional security.

In the meeting, Ambassador Horbach expressed the interest of Dutch private sector companies in investing in the Maldives.

Both concluded the meeting expressing hope for renewed and strengthened ties between the two countries under the new Ambassador’s tenure.

Ambassador Dominican Republic to the Maldives David Emmanuel Puig Buchel

David Emmanuel Puig Buchel, the newly appointed Ambassador of Dominican Republic to the Maldives, presented his letter of credentials to President Solih during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

Meeting after the credentials ceremony, President Solih congratulated the Ambassador upon his appointment – emphasizing the Maldives and the Dominican Republic had maintained 12 years of stable diplomatic relations.

Both of them also discussed various topics of mutual interest, including promoting sustainable tourism, environmental cooperation, and building disaster resilience.

Concluding the meeting, both the President and the Ambassador reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest and working alongside each other on the multilateral front.

Ambassador of Algeria to the Maldives Abderrahmane Benguerrah

Abderrahmane Benguerrah, the newly appointed Ambassador of Algeria to the Maldives, presented his letter of credentials to President Solih during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Tuesday morning.

During a meeting held after the credentials ceremony, President Solih welcomed the Ambassador to the Maldives, and congratulated him on his appointment. He also underscored that Algeria and the Maldives are deeply rooted in the Islamic faith and share common cultural values. He emphasized on the Maldivian government’s commitment to enhancing bilateral and multilateral engagements.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Benguerrah underscored the historic friendship and good relations between the two nations – also the historic friendship and good relations between the two nations.

The President and the Ambassador concluded the meeting with renewed hope for strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.

Maldives and Algeria established diplomatic relations in 1988.
