Ahmed Aagil has been crowned the victor of the National Surfing League.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Irushaad came in first in the Men’s Open Rannamaari Challenge.
Aayaa Naseem won the Women’s Open with Naahaa Nasrulla coming in second and Rishthaa Sujaa winning third.
Ahmed Rasheed was the champion of the Master’s division; Vishaal Ali came in second and Ibrahim Areef won third place.
Abdulla Areef (Fuku) won the Rannamaari Challenge Stand Up Paddle (SUP) event. He won the event after beating the reigning champion, Mohamed Muaaz.
Last year’s runner-up, Mohamed Thohlam came in third this year. While five athletes competed in last year’s event, this year the number of athletes increased to 6. Aside from the athletes that were placed first, second and third, the other 3 athletes are Ahmed Irifaan Ali, Moosa Rasheed, and the 17-year-old athlete from Th. Madifushi, Dhaain Hussain.
Maruhabaa cup, the team event, was held this year in a new format from previous years, with teams of 4 surfers from different islands competing in it. The winner of each heat is chosen by adding all the scores of the surfers on the team and seeing which team gets the highest point total.
The Maruhabaa cup trophy was lifted by the team from Rasmaadhoo while last year’s champions, GDh. Gahdhoo won second place and last but not least, Male’ in third place.
A total of 6 islands competed in this year's team event.
The athletes that represented the winning team are Hussain Areef (Ibu), Abdulla Areef (Fuku), Ibrahim Areef, and Mohamed Areef (Rifey).
