Man accused of molesting two young girls remanded pending trial’s end

The suspect in the sexual abuse of two young girls in northern Maldives has been remanded in custody pending the outcome of trial.

The sexual abuse of the two young girls, aged 12 and 14, was reported to the police on Tuesday.

Police arrested a suspect in connection to the case Tuesday night. He was released when presented before the court for his remand hearing Wednesday night – and rearrested on Thursday under a court order.

The suspect was identified by police as a 49-year-old Maldivian male.

Police confirmed that he has been remanded in custody pending the outcome of trial on Friday by the Criminal Court.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
