Maaungoodhoo stabbing victim to undergo second surgery

Doctors state the young man from Sh. Maaungoodhoo injured in a stabbing last week needs to undergo a second surgery in two months, states the Kulhuduffushi Regional Hospital (KRH).

The stabbing took place in Maaungoodhoo around midnight Wednesday. The victim, a 31-year-old male, sustained a stab wound to the left side of his abdominal area in the attack.

He was initially treated at the Maaungoodhoo Health Center before he was transferred to the KRH.

According to KRH, a joint team from KRH and the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) conducted a diagnostic laparoscopic surgery based on the results of a CT scan.

The three-hour surgery was successful with doctors cutting off the part of the intestines injured in the attack, said KRH.

He needs to undergo a second surgery in two months.

According to the Maaungoodhoo Council, the young man injured in the incident worked at a resort, and had been back home on leave.

The council states the suspect arrested in the case has a record for drug-related crimes.
