Met office issues white alert for wave surges

Maldives Meteorological Services on Sunday issued a white alert for swell wave surges.

The alert was issued from Sunday morning 1015 hrs till 1400 hrs from Kaafu Atoll to Addu City.

In addition to this, Met Office predicted storms across the Maldives, accompanied by thunder till 1800 hrs on Sunday.

It was also predicted that the southern areas will experience rough seas with wave heights reaching two to five feet.

On Saturday flooding damaged Alimas Carnival area and neighboring streets in Male’ City.

The Male’ City Council has built a wall outside of King Salman Mosque to mitigate the impact of the wave swells.

Floods experienced in the country earlier caused damage to numerous households, as well as household items.
