MNU to hold special walk to mark 50th anniversary of tourism industry

Maldives National University (MNU) has announced their decision to hold a special walk as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Maldivian tourism industry.

‘Tourism Jubilee Walk’ jointly by MNU’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS)and the Tourism Ministry will be held on November 19, at 16:00pm in the evening.

Speaking at a press conference regarding the event on Wednesday – FHTS’ Dean Zeenath Shafeeg said that the walk is being held with the participation of tourism industry workers and students.

“Such an event can only be held with the cooperation of many. In this regard, we are also seeking sponsors for the event,” she had said.

Zeenath said that 21 schools in the Male’ area have been invited to participate in event – in addition to colleges and tourism industry associations. She also requested the participation from faculty alumnus.  

“Many surprise events will also take place during the course of this walk. Industry experts will also deliver short remarks,” Zeenath noted.

Zeenath said that purpose of this event includes dissemination of information regarding employment opportunities available in the tourism industry, alongside other industry-related information. She stressed the importance of carrying out such work in the capacity of educators.

Tourism Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Fathmath Nirfa who also spoke at the press conference assured full cooperation from the Ministry for the event. She said details of the event will be shared with industry stakeholders.
