Met Office issues nationwide white alert for heavy rain

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has issued a nationwide white alert warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The white alert is in effect from 4:30pm on Tuesday evening, till 10:30pm on Tuesday night.

During these hours, Met Office forecasts heavy rain and thunderstorms across the Maldives, and strong winds of 40 mph.

The weather forecasting body has also issued a white alert from Kaafu Atoll to Seenu Atoll, warning of strong winds of 9 – 24mph and gusts of 45 mph with rough seas.

This alert will be in effect from 6:30pm on Tuesday evening, till 12:30 am on Wednesday morning.

Till 10:00am on Wednesday morning, Met Office expects west/northwesterly winds at 13 – 23 mph, which may be 45 mph during showers. Scattered showers, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms and rough seas in general, with wave height at 4 to 6 feet, have also been projected.  

Therewith, Met Office urged all, particularly seafarers, to exercise caution over the weather.
