Missing man found dead in Hulhumale'

Police have discovered a body during their search of a young man reported missing from Hulhumale’ back in September.

Mohamed Azhan, 27, H. Bondikandholhuge, K. Male’, was reported missing to the police on Monday, September 19.

He was last seen near the Redbull Park in Hulhumale’ Phase I, where the guesthouse he had been staying in was located in, at approximately 06:00 am September 18.

Police said they discovered a body during a search operation in Hulhumale’ at approximately 05:45 pm Sunday.

“It is believed to be the body of Mohamed Azhan,” said the police.

The body was found in the thick vegetation in front of the Water Theme Park - near his last known location. The body was now been moved from the area.

In a press conference Sunday evening, Head of Serious and Organized Crime Department, Superintendent of Police Hassan Saeed said the case had been changed from a missing persons investigation to a homicide investigation.

Hassan said the body was found in a highly decomposed stage, but that there were no visible signs of injury.

The body is set to be sent overseas for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

According to Hassan, the police do not have any suspects at this stage.

Police said last week they had tracked Azhan’s movements from his guesthouse to H13 in the Hiyaa projects, and back to the area where the guesthouse his located at approximately 04:53 am September 18.

He traveled to and from H13 in taxis.

Police said there was no record of him travelling either domestically or internationally.
