Dhivehi Language Academy begin 3 competitions, over 1,000 participants

Dhivehi Language Academy commenced three different competitions at the national level with over 1,000 participants.

As per the academy, the competitions that began are essay writing, short story writing, and poetry writing.

Held in three sessions, 15 schools from the greater Male’ region will be taking part from Gazee School, and from across the rest of the country, 57 schools will be hosting.

Speaking to Sun, President of the Dhivehi Language Academy Dr Ashraf Abdul Raheem said that this time around, their aim was to grant the opportunity to participants, even those from islands.

He took the opportunity to appreciate the support from the island councils and schools given to the academy.

The competition is open to participants from schools, universities, and clubs alike.  

“Photos shared by some of the islands show the care given by them. So [we] sincerely thank them for the efforts.”

Dr Ashraf went on to say that the main purpose of such competitions is to increase the love students have for the language.

“Our main purpose is to bring language alive. Bettering students’ language skills while giving the care needed towards Dhivehi.”

The first session on Saturday morning was the essay writing competition. In the afternoon short story writing competition was held, and finally, the poetry writing competition was held at night.

The academy detailed that since A’level examinations are starting, separate sessions will be held for the participants from that category in November.

This year, a total of 557 students are taking part in the 37th national essay writing competition.

Meanwhile, 545 participants will be competing in the 34th national short story competition.

A total of 191 students will be participating in the poetry writing competition.
