MDP defends Sh.Maaun’goodhoo Council seat

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Fathmath Shimana wins the seat for Sh. Maaun’goodhoo Council.

In the by-election held on Saturday, Shimana won a total of 359 votes, while her opponent Ahmed Ibrahim from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) received only 281 votes.

Over 80 percent of eligible people cast their votes in this election.

With this, there are three MDP members and two PPM members on the council.

Furthermore, Shimana and the two female council members are on the council from the allocated seats for females. Hence, the council of Sh. Maaun’goodhoo now has a majority of female members.

The seat was left vacant after council member of MDP Musthafa Abdul Gayyoom resigned from the position.

In addition that of Sh. Maaun’goodhoo, Election Commission also held the by-elections for the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of L. Dhanbidhoo, R.Rasmaadhoo and Th.Guraidhoo.
